_ABILITIES:
While Arakita has certainly worked his ass off for three years to be a strong enough rider to participate in Hakogaku's top six for the Inter High, something Fukutomi always remarks on is that Arakita is an excellent puller. By pulling, it means riding ahead of someone so that they get less resistance and can pedal easier - and despite his bony frame, he makes a good wind resistor for whoever is behind him. Arakita is listed as an all-rounder, also, which means he can do the whole course if he really has to. Climbing, sprinting, pulling, ace assist, ace, name it and he'll do it. With a lot of complaints, but he'll do it well or exhaust himself trying to.
Another "ability" of sorts is that he has a surprisingly keen nose. He takes to getting a good whiff of someone and knowing just what their intentions are - Arakita can even scent someone while riding bikes in the middle of a race. While he is generally on the right track, people can surprise him with a change in scent from their resolve solidifying, or from downright proving him wrong.
When it comes to strengths and weaknesses, it stems from personality flaws and such rather than anything magical or some fantastic talent. He doesn't come across as a friendly person, but doing something that impresses him nets a loyal person. Arakita will still complain to feel that his opinion is being heard, but he will always back someone up once he's decided he likes them. Weaknesses are far easier to spot than strengths, as he displays them far more prominently. Rough, blunt, short-tempered, reckless, prone to yelling, headstrong, not conventionally good looking. He has bad traits in spades, but he has plenty of good ones that make up for it - and it's not that he's a terrible person. He just doesn't reign himself in.
_PERSONALITY:

Crude in language, loud in volume, and downright reckless in almost any endeavor, Arakita does a fantastic job of giving a terrible first impression to anyone he meets. It's not like his bad attitude is a wrong impression, but with how prickly he will be to people on a first meeting, it's easy to think that he really doesn't like people at all. He really has no filter for when he talks, there is no fear about speaking his mind to tell someone off, but despite his willingness to tell someone when they're in his way or being an idiot, he wouldn't answer questions about his own decisions all that readily. It's not that he is completely off-putting, but most of his softer traits get smothered under his bad temperament and a dislike to show such things. Despite that rough exterior, Arakita does pay enough attention to his friends and cares for them; he has a softer heart than he ever likes to talk about. When he hears about Shinkai refusing to race in their early high school years because of a rabbit, he makes strides to help him practice even if he covers up his concern with adamant complaints. He also keeps an eye on Manami for being a problem child, even if Toudou is more his mentor for climbing - to be fair, Manami needs extra eyes on him for how much he dozes in class or ditches school to go riding in the hills.
A notable tic that shows when he respects someone is that he gives them a nickname. A shortening of the name, or a simple -chan is added, but it speaks volumes when he does add such a thing. With his bad personality typically pushing people away, Arakita doesn't make friends too easily; the few he does make are usually either really easy-going (Shinkai), serious and don't mind his antics (Fukutomi), or argue with him about literally everything and still remain trustworthy enough that he could bring himself to help them in a pinch (Toudou). Arakita is the type of person that, once he sets his mind to something, he goes all out to succeed - it makes him extremely competitive, and ready for a fight the whole way on that path to victory. He might complain a lot, but no one pushes him to his limits more than he himself. He tends to act unfriendly and callous, but the people who have come to understand him best can tell it's literally just that; an act.
Starting with Fukutomi, Arakita really hated him at first; he still complains and says that Fuku pushes him too hard, or expects far too much out of him, but Arakita is truly grateful to him if anything. Meeting Fukutomi really changed his life for the better. Arakita had been in the middle of a bad bout of depression after quitting baseball; angry at everything in general and aimless. After a strange first encounter that led to a race between bike and scooter, Arakita finally decided to make a change. At first, he couldn't even ride a bike. After Fuku caught him stealing his bike for the third night in a row, he explained that Arakita couldn't ride it because he kept looking straight down. Biking means the rider needs to look ahead. It was true that he couldn't pedal forward without looking up, but it struck more as words about life rather than about simply bike racing; Arakita couldn't let go of his past for that long time. He doesn't look back anymore, thanks to Fukutomi. He can move forward with everything in his being towards new goals, and this is all why he acknowledges and respects Fukutomi the most out of anyone he knows.
Shinkai is someone that Arakita trusts, in that he's laid back and fairly cool with anything Arakita does. Despite being complete opposites in personality, they are seen hanging out together outside of club activities fairly often, whether it's eating at the clubs favorite diner or occasionally doing homework. Shinkai is willing to let Arakita copy homework (the answers are usually wrong though), and refers to him by his first name often. They weren't always so close, but it was after Arakita joined the club that Shinkai actually approached him. Arakita's straightforward answer of really not knowing what the hell he's doing only made Shinkai understand what Fukutomi was up to with having him join the club. It's Shinkai's frequent company that makes Arakita sure he's not completely hateable, even if he would argue that no one likes him (because of his attitude).
Toudou is someone Arakita clashed with from day one, and still continues to bicker with often, but he is definitely a person that Arakita trusts and would call a friend. They keep each other on their toes. Toudou will nag endlessly about how he eats terribly or that he should pull his own weight, and Arakita will gripe back that his headbands are stupid and that he doesn't eat enough. The arguments can be literally over anything, but when push comes to shove, there's an unspoken level of trust between them that Arakita wouldn't admit without trouble. Some of his motivations to doing things stem from wanting to avoid Toudou nagging him - otherwise, Arakita would laze his way through homework and in practice. It's not that he doesn't work hard when he does, but Arakita truly would rather be lazy in most instances. They're really opposites entirely, but one of the key traits they have in common is that they're both fiercely loyal to those they've chosen. Where Toudou calls Makishima his fated rival, Arakita hates compliments that don't come from Fukutomi.
_ITEMS: His Hakogaku jersey, two (empty) water bottles, and three protein snack bars in the back pocket of his jersey shirt. Since he is coming from mid-race, he would also have his bike, helmet and gloves!
