[In the brief time it took for him to send out that text and to doze off in a power nap, Arakita sleepily opened his eye to the sound of that soft knock - and there goes Kinjou, running too quickly to him that he wonders if he really looks worse than he thought. Shifting to sit himself up a bit better, he lifts a hand to make a shhh motion.]
Keep it down, Suga's sleeping in the other room. He got no sleep, I'm gonna be surprised if he wakes up anytime soon.
[How does he start with an explanation though, hu..]
Basic gist, drunk local Elites are fuckin assholes.
[Kinjou pauses right as he's within a few steps of Arakita, his head darting down in the direction of where the bedroom leads. His lips tighten into a thin, concerned line, and he quietly makes it that last bit of distance before he leans over carefully to get a better look at Arakita.
He's a complete wreck. There's a swell of frustration that grows in his chest for not being able to help him, but he knows that with his knee, he probably would have ended up the same. Still... Arakita doesn't deserve this. Suga doesn't deserve the harassment of being a mongrel either.]
They attacked Sugawara. [He keeps his voice hushed, enough for only Arakita to be able to hear. It's not even a question, he knows that's the only likely answer. While he's not sure of how it happened he can only be thankful that Arakita was there in order to help him, otherwise he's sure the outcome would have been much worse. And yet he has no idea what sort of condition Suga's in. There must have been a lot of them from the way Arakita looks. He has a strong, fierce personality which he assumes means he must be rather good in a fight, but if he were terribly outnumbered he'd only be able to do so much.] How is he doing?
I got pretty damn lucky, finding him when I did. I'd guess they only just started harassing him, but it don't change that they weren't gonna escort him home.
[His own tone stays quieter, hushed, like talking about it is going to bring the boogeyman into the room, but he can certainly see that rising concern in Kinjou's expression. Reaching up to quietly wave him off, to gesture that he can sit and Arakita will explain, he takes a minute to adjust his right arm so it was resting more against his chest. This makeshift sling doesn't work too well when he's laying down, but he doesn't want to keep it for more than a day if he can help it. His arm is fine, it's just the overuse that made his elbow ache somethin fierce.]
He's physically alright. Few scratches and bruises that will heal up. He feels like emotional shit though, kept apologizing and saying it was his fault when it's really not.
[He'd rather not take up any room that Arakita might need on the couch, but he follows that silent instruction anyway, taking a seat beside him but making sure to leave enough space for Arakita.]
I understand. He feels responsible for putting you in this position, but the only ones to blame are the people who uphold the ridiculousness of the caste system.
[He'll never understand how people can accept a divide of its own people so willingly like this, how they can just look down on and degrade others by the color of their hair and turn on those who choose to defend them. Suga doesn't deserve that sort of treatment, and Arakita shouldn't have been beaten so badly.
Kinjou raises a hand and tries to take hold of the ice pack pressed to Arakita's face, unsure of the damage underneath it.]
You're in terrible shape, Arakita. You should see a doctor.
I'm fine, it's just bruising. It's really not as bad as it looks, I just got a nosebleed along the way so it made a huge mess.
[He agrees with what Kinjou expressed though, because he understands why Sugawara feels like shit. Arakita stands by knowing that it really isn't his fault though. Letting Kinjou take that ice pack with a grumble and settling down again, hopefully Kinjou didn't plan on this visit for being too short, since he is just going to shift his legs up and stretch them across the other cyclists lap to stay partially laying down.
Arakita is still relatively exhausted, but his discomfort is what keeps him from really being able to fall asleep.]
[The sight of that black eye underneath the ice as he pulls it slightly up makes Kinjou feel chilled down to his bones, and it's not just because of the ice pack in his hand. He can't believe this, this is completely unfair. Arakita is more than welcome to stretch out over him, and since the pressure is more on his thighs than his knee, it doesn't do Kinjou any harm either.
Setting the ice back down, Kinjou brushes aside a few stray strands of hair across Arakita's forehead.]
You're in no condition to assess your own injuries. Just because nothing feels broken doesn't mean nothing is wrong.
[Arakita you're talking to a person who slammed into a guardrail and practically bled all over the road. Don't underplay injuries in front of him.]
I will make a call to a doctor I have been seeing, and I will bring you and Sugawara there with me.
God damn, I don't need a doctor. Just give me a few days of rest and food and some actual sleep and I'll be fine. You fuss like I never pick a fight.
[Scowling makes his face hurt, and yet he does it anyway, reaching up like he can swat Kinjou's hand from that ice pack and take it again himself - like its in continuation of his defiance for a doctor. He doesn't need that much help, he's capable, he's not crippled or anything. Even if he kind of is, with how he hasn't moved his right arm once on its own.]
If I don't look like I've improved it all after a few days, fine, I'll go. But you better fuckin make sure they're alright with mongrels before you take Suga there.
[That is not at all the answer he wants to hear, and because of that Kinjou keeps his hand right on Arakita's head as if he's going to ruffle his hair. But he doesn't, because he could have some sort of head injury too, and he doesn't want to exacerbate it.]
They are located in Midas, and the doctor themselves is a mongrel. I would not suggest him to anyone if I did not already trust him.
[Gyro might be a bit odd, but he's seemed like a good person, and at the moment he's the only one he'd trust to suggest to others if they needed something checked out. He doesn't quite like Elite-run businesses much anymore unless he knows the person running it.]
I "fuss" because your stubbornness makes it unfortunately easy to do so. [He pauses for a moment, considering something.] Be thankful that I am not Toudou.
Fuck, don't tell Toudou about this, he's already going to see whatever doesn't heal before one of our usual meals. He doesn't need to get moreupset about somethin he can't do anything about.
[It's good to know that whoever this doctor is, would be a trusted individual. Not that Arakita still wants to go, but when Sugawara wakes up, he'll suggest it for him. Scowling just a bit harder, flinching with how it just makes his whole face hurt and he ends up leaning forward against the hand on his head, Arakita doesn't fuss much more. Shutting his eyes to offset the ache, he stays like that for a long minute.
The presence is calming, at least, for all of his irritable nerves.]
I believe it's more-so your own responsibility than my own to tell Toudou. You should do it as soon as possible. He cares for you, after all.
[Sort of a blanket statement, seeing as he knows little to nothing about Toudou and Arakita's relationship. However they're teammates, and that's the sort of connection Kinjou thinks is more than enough to warrant being told about these sorts of things. Toudou has always been loud and upfront with Makishima, and Makishima tends to act as if he doesn't care, but Kinjou knows deep down that the two care for each other. He wouldn't actually be that surprised if Arakita and Toudou have the same sort of thing.
Kinjou is starting to care as well, but he keeps that to himself and instead focuses on Arakita. He must be incredibly tired. If only he could make it easier for him to be able to get some rest, but being there is all he can do for the time being. After a while he raises his hand, and he runs his fingertips gently over Arakita's hair to try and make it easier for him to at least relax.]
[He says that, but it's with trying to figure out just how he would tell him. Should he call him to come here so they can talk, or would texting just be easier? Arakita doesn't doubt that Toudou cares, even if he won't be the least bit thrilled about why he's hurt. Breathing slowly through his nose and ending up with this small curve turning the corner of his mouth up as he feels that simple touch in his hair, he groggily cracks his good eye open to look at him, slouching forward just a bit more for the contact.
It feels nice.] You seriously pettin me? Am I a good dog? [Arakita can't help himself with that sort of tease, his eye already starting to close again - it's not a request for Kinjou to stop, after all.]
[Kinjou's hand pauses, and while he doesn't find as much amusement in this whole thing as Arakita seems to, he can't stop the slight quirk of his lips as he continues letting his fingers run through Arakita's hair once more.]
I suppose, if that's what you wish to believe.
[He doesn't know why he's doing this. The dog comments never stick well with him. It's just a nice gesture. Arakita's been through a lot, and he really did do a lot in order to earn this inkling of affection.]
[Though honestly, he's probably just doing all this because he's relieved that the both of them are fine, that things hadn't turned out even worse. That despite his injuries, Arakita's still capable of making sly little remarks like this. He's glad, he's relieved. Arakita deserves this.]
[There's a quiet, tired chuckle slipping out of him from the whole joke, but there is no witty come back after a few long moments, mostly because Arakita's breathing is evening out finally. The fingers working through his hair are careful, and with the knowledge that there is help even if he's being stubborn about it is far more relieving than he wants to admit. In the end, it's way easier to doze off than he thinks, and his weight sags a bit further forward until he bends almost in half, slouching against Kinjou's shoulder with a tired snore.]
[ it's probably less the low sound of voices out in the main room that wakes sugawara and more the fact that he's managed to roll back over onto his bruised cheek, but... he jerks the rest of the way back to wakefulness pretty quickly when he realizes that the spot next to him on the bed is empty. there's a startled moment where he reaches out instinctively across the mattress like that'll make arakita pop back up, heart wedging itself up into his throat --
but, no. the voices in the other room are just loud enough for him to be able to make arakita's out, and that's enough to make that edge of panic settle back down. they're both okay. they made it out of what happened last night.
... but he still stumbles out of bed with a yawn, raking his hand idly through his hair to tame the worst of his bedhead and sparing a quick glance in a mirror to assess his injuries. the bruise on his cheek has darkened into richer hues of black and blue overnight, matching nicely with his slightly swollen and split lower lip. at least he'd been able to slap bandages over the ugly raw patches on his elbows and palms, so... it's not that bad-looking, right? so! he decides to pop his head out of the bedroom door to see who's here, hanging back a little uncertainly in case it's someone he doesn't know. (the concept of being surrounded by all these elites was never really alarming before, but now...) ]
Oh! Kinjou? [ a familiar face, and one he trusts. which is enough to coax him the rest of the way into the room, expression softening with a touch of obvious fondness once he realizes that arakita is napping against kinjou's shoulder. so his voice drops to something quieter, doing his best to keep from waking arakita up. ] ... did Arakita call you up? Is he okay?
[Surprisingly Kinjou manages to stay pretty awake as he just sits there in the silence of the living room with Arakita pressed against him, focusing on his breathing and the occasional snore that comes out of him. His fingers continue to rake softly through his hair, gaze occasionally wandering across his injuries. It's when he hears a familiar voice speak his name that his head shifts upward where Sugawara stands, eventually approaching him, and his expression quickly fills with sympathy at the other's visible roughed-up state.
He only gives a nod in greeting.]
He is well enough to still complain. [Which honestly, might be a bit of a good thing, because it means Arakita still has some of his usual fight in him. Kinjou would be worried if he acted any other way.] I came by my own choice.
[His hand stays atop Arakita's head, his own voice hushed while he continues to look at Suga with concern.]
I apologize if we woke you. You should continue resting.
[ despite himself, and despite how worn out he is, suga can't help a little laugh at kinjou's comment. ] That's good news, isn't it?
[ crouching down by the couch to get a better look at the bruising on arakita's face, reaching out to push his bangs gently away from his forehead as he clucks a little worried sound under his breath. ] If he wasn't complaining a little, I'd probably be really worried.
[ but! it seems like the ice is at least helping to keep the bruising down, and none of arakita's injuries are showing any signs of scarring or infection, so... they got lucky. really lucky. so he pushes himself back up to his feet again, offering kinjou a little smile. ] Ah, that's okay! I've been trying to stay up to keep an eye on Arakita...
Just in case, you know? [ it's his fault that arakita got hurt, so... it's the least he can do, really. ]
[There is the slightest quirk at the side of his mouth, but very little humor is expressed on Kinjou's face, mostly because he is starting to get rather used to this thing Sugawara tends to do. Where he disguises his concerns with light-hearted comments, tries to make it seem as if he can handle what's happening around him.
He really wishes he would do that sort of thing, not when it's just them, not when Arakita wouldn't want that of him either. He's trying to keep him up for his sake, because he got hurt for him, because this happened all because Sugawara was a mongrel, but he has no reason to shoulder any blame. There shouldn't be a "just in case", like he might be afraid of something terrible happening at any moment.]
I'm rather sure half of the reason Arakita was awake was in order to keep an eye on you. The both of you won't get any proper rest if all you are doing is worrying. [Even if Arakita hadn't outright told him so, he knows he was worried.]
[ and he rocks back on his heels a little, mouth shifting to a slightly worried frown as he spares another glance at arakita. he'd thought that sticking close by to keep an eye on his injuries was the smartest thing to do, but now...? when kinjou puts it like that, it's enough to make him consider the flip side of the coin. ] It might be best if I went back to living out of Daichi's place.
[ ... or worked out a way of moving back into an apartment in midas. there are probably a few other people in eos tower who would put him up, but... in the end, there's a chance that things would come right back around to this sort of situation. the nicest thing about being an elite should be that it keeps you safe and out of trouble, and having a mongrel around only seems to make that less of a certainty. ]
I mean... [ and then he manages to find a smile, shaking his head. ] I can't really keep crashing here forever. Arakita probably wants his couch back.
[Kinjou continues to watch him curiously, feeling as if there's some important detail here that he's missing.]
May I ask why you haven't been staying with Daichi? [Obviously the first thing that comes to mind is that Sugawara doesn't want to burden Daichi, what with his injuries and how worried his own captain and friend would be. But from how it sounds, he hasn't been staying with Daichi frequently, instead staying with Arakita on some occasions. While he knows the apartments in Eos Tower have spare rooms, he doesn't quite understand why Suga wouldn't make things easier on himself by staying in one place.]
[ despite his best efforts, the question still makes him flinch. it's been... almost two weeks since what happened, and it still aches just the same. whenever he goes back to daichi's place, it's always quiet and empty -- almost like daichi has some kind of sense for whenever suga's coming over, and ducks out just in time. there hasn't even been a phone call, a text, even the slightest little attempt to make contact.
... but that's okay. if daichi wants space, then really, it's the least that suga can give him.
of course, that doesn't mean he knows how to answer this particular question any better. he and kinjou did talk a little about what happened, but... suga isn't really keen on digging any deeper into it. not after last night, especially. ] Ah, that's...
[ a shrug, struggling to find his smile again. ] ... even teammates need some space sometimes, you know?
[ not exactly a lie, but... ] So I guess I've been taking advantage of Arakita's kindness a little.
[He's right, he shouldn't assume it so fully but somehow Kinjou knows he's right, that Suga is hiding something and refuses to let even a hint of it show. Except it's right there, so visible on his face, the little changes of his expression, the way he's choosing to hide it but failing very obviously.]
Sugawara. [Kinjou states his name fully, the sort of way a parent would speak up to get a child's attention.] You believe you are being an inconvenience.
[He's managed to wake up just a little, just catching part of the conversation, but his tone is still totally groggy and he hasn't really budged from his napping place at Kinjou's shoulder. Drifting his left hand out across his body, making some tired, blind grabs in the direction Sugawara's voice is coming from, Arakita doesn't open his eyes yet.]
's not taking advantage of anythin. Who the hell else is going to sleep on my couch.
[ ... wow, is he that easy to read? not to mention! it's been awhile since someone's used The Captain Voice on him in earnest, and... coming from kinjou, it's effective enough to startle him a little. almost immediately, that little smile playing around his mouth turns guilty, a kid caught directly with their hand in the proverbial cookie jar.
and, naturally, arakita picks now as the perfect time to wake back up. ]
Mm, you never know. [ letting himself get tugged a little closer to the couch when arakita grabs sleepily at him, trying for humor (and failing miserably). ] Your couch might end up being a hot commodity.
And it's not... [ resisting the urge to shift on his feet a little, feeling like he's due for a scolding. ] I wasn't thinking of it as an inconvenience, really... [ yes he was ] I just...
[And the dog awakens. As soon as Arakita is reaching out an arm, Kinjou almost urges it back down so Arakita doesn't move and hurt himself further, but when he sees that he just seems to be trying to pull Suga over to the couch he leaves him be and just lets out a heavy sigh.]
Now might not be the best time to talk about this. Please sit down. [Kinjou pats the empty side of the couch right next to him.] And you should go back to sleep.
[Suga gets sweet captain, while Arakita gets sour captain, since Kinjou ruffles Arakita's hair enough to make his bangs a complete mess over his forehead.] Do not place Suga on your couch again. Remember that you have guest rooms. You can treat him better than that.
[Making a bit of a face at the ruffling in his hair making his bangs stick up with static, Arakita grunts and starts to pick his head up in clear rebellion about going back to sleep, even if he keeps that hand on Suga's sleeve to keep him near. There's no escape, god damnit - he fell into his life, now he has to stay.]
He spends half the time in my bed, I've told him to use a bed, he just chooses to come out here.
[Arakita doesn't even realize what he's said, his mouth just ran off with the truth and he's too tired still to make a whole lot of sense out of things other than that he's being scolded and Sugawara is feeling like shit still.] So shove off, Kin-chan.

I'm rather sure half of the reason Arakita was awake was in order to keep an eye on you. The both of you won't get any proper rest if all you are doing is worrying. [Even if Arakita hadn't outright told him so, he knows he was worried.]

on 2016-04-17 05:21 pm (UTC)[ and he rocks back on his heels a little, mouth shifting to a slightly worried frown as he spares another glance at arakita. he'd thought that sticking close by to keep an eye on his injuries was the smartest thing to do, but now...? when kinjou puts it like that, it's enough to make him consider the flip side of the coin.
Arakita probably wants his couch back.

on 2016-04-18 02:58 am (UTC)May I ask why you haven't been staying with Daichi? [Obviously the first thing that comes to mind is that Sugawara doesn't want to burden Daichi, what with his injuries and how worried his own captain and friend would be. But from how it sounds, he hasn't been staying with Daichi frequently, instead staying with Arakita on some occasions. While he knows the apartments in Eos Tower have spare rooms, he doesn't quite understand why Suga wouldn't make things easier on himself by staying in one place.]

on 2016-04-18 03:59 am (UTC)... but that's okay. if daichi wants space, then really, it's the least that suga can give him.
of course, that doesn't mean he knows how to answer this particular question any better. he and kinjou did talk a little about what happened, but... suga isn't really keen on digging any deeper into it. not after last night, especially. ] Ah, that's...
[ a shrug, struggling to find his smile again. ] ... even teammates need some space sometimes, you know?
[ not exactly a lie, but... ] So I guess I've been taking advantage of Arakita's kindness a little.

on 2016-04-18 05:17 am (UTC)Sugawara. [Kinjou states his name fully, the sort of way a parent would speak up to get a child's attention.] You believe you are being an inconvenience.
wakes up abruptly WHO IS DAD VOICING IN HERE, I DIDNT DO NOTHIN
on 2016-04-18 05:36 am (UTC)[He's managed to wake up just a little, just catching part of the conversation, but his tone is still totally groggy and he hasn't really budged from his napping place at Kinjou's shoulder. Drifting his left hand out across his body, making some tired, blind grabs in the direction Sugawara's voice is coming from, Arakita doesn't open his eyes yet.]
's not taking advantage of anythin. Who the hell else is going to sleep on my couch.

on 2016-04-18 06:01 am (UTC)and, naturally, arakita picks now as the perfect time to wake back up.
[ yes he was ] I just...

on 2016-04-18 06:19 am (UTC)Now might not be the best time to talk about this.
You can treat him better than that.

on 2016-04-18 06:34 am (UTC)He spends half the time in my bed, I've told him to use a bed, he just chooses to come out here.
[Arakita doesn't even realize what he's said, his mouth just ran off with the truth and he's too tired still to make a whole lot of sense out of things other than that he's being scolded and Sugawara is feeling like shit still.] So shove off, Kin-chan.
